Back-End QA Engineer (Remote, UK)

Role Overview This fully remote position is listed on behalf of a partner company in the UK. The Back-End QA Engineer ensures reliability, accuracy, and performance of a high-traffic backend platform, with API, data, and transaction-level validation at its core. You’ll blend manual testing with Playwright-based automation, working closely with backend engineers and product teams to prevent defects pre-production.

About the Role

A Back-End QA Engineer at this company is responsible for:

  • Assessing the integrity of transactions, APIs, databases, and services through end-to-end automation and manual verification.
  • Validating authorisations, settlements, reconciliations, and more in mission-critical, high-volume architectures.
  • Playwright and SQL will be your tools to automate complex workflows and hunt down subtle data inconsistencies.
  • Your insights will help tighten defect resolution cycles, strengthen regression testing, and reduce production risks.

Beyond process replication, expect to shape testing standards, champion scalable automated test suites, and drive end-to-end quality in a mission-led product team.


Key Responsibilities

Automated Testing & Validation

  • Develop comprehensive manual and Playwright-based test suites, covering backend processes, APIs, and transaction logic.
  • Maintain and expand automated regression tests while ensuring efficient CI/CD integration.

Managerial Testing

  • Author case documentation from client stories/functions and reconcile gaps.
  • Perform manual API, database, and service-level validations using tools like Postman and SQL queries to de-risk deployments.

Defect Management & Collaboration

  • Log defects in Jira with reproducible steps, logs, and fix verification.
  • Work iteratively in Scrum/Agile to prioritise tests for smoke, regression, and exploratory rounds post-release.

Quality_advice

  • Partner with product and backend engineers to urgently identify edge cases in transactional flows (e.g. race conditions, token expiration impacts).

Required Experience & Skills

✅ 4+ years in QA testing, with a backend specialization using manual validation techniques. ✅ Playwright proficiency for continuous automated testing. ✅ API proficiency with Postman collection use and target scenarios for RTM. ✅ Entry-level SQL for querying relational databases, ensuring data integrity. ✅ STLC/Agile fluency; comfort with TestRail, Zephyr, or similar tracking. ✅ Edge-case logic poured through—your ears (and keen eye) for detail could find transaction logic holes?

🔹 Nice-to-have Experience supporting UXA stages. Basic scripting automation willing (e.g. Python snippets for logging sanity checks). Familiarity with PHP-based backend environments.


Technologies & Work Environment

  • Automation tools: Playwright framework for quindium coverage.
  • Database Layer: Supportive SQL usage to triage data glitches.
  • CI/CD interaction: Tests shall feed a scalable regression pipeline.
