Back End Team Leader – Sustainable Aluminium Packaging

As the Back End Team Leader, your mission goes beyond operational excellence. You will lead a team to:

  • Deliver high-quality aluminium cans with the lowest spoilage rates
  • Optimise production efficiency while maintaining cost-effectiveness
  • Ensure safe, sustainable, and highly efficient processes
  • Improve tooling, machinery performance, and cost management

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership &Communication

  • Conduct daily and monthly team briefings, sharing progress and KPIs to drive accountability and growth.
  • Provide daily/weekly reports to shift managers, keeping leadership informed on operations.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and front-end leaders to address challenges and streamline production processes.

Operation &Process Excellence

  • Monitor usage of parts/tools and maintenance spending against budget, finding cost-saving opportunities.
  • Drive innovative initiatives to enhance sustainability and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and document maintenance and overhaul procedures for back-end equipment.
  • Manage maintenance software and scheduling as applicable to production.

Process Understanding &Project Management

  • Provide expertise and support on the printing process, internal spray, and necking systems.
  • Lead back-end projects, including downgauging projects, in close collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Oversee improvement projects, applying process innovation best practices.
  • Implement Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) activities to increase operational efficiency.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Proven people management experience, with the ability to lead a diverse, operational team.
  • Proactive attitude, strong problem-solving skills, and analytical decision-making.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, the capability to identify defects, errors, and improvement opportunities.
  • Competency in adopting and implementing new processes and procedural changes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with readiness to articulate complex concepts clearly.
  • Intuitive understanding of lean methodologies and principles for waste elimination.
  • Compliance with statutory health, safety, and environmental (H&S) standards.
