A leading PropTech business is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to help shape the future of its digital platform.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you’ll lead one of the company’s product engineering squads, combining architecture, coaching and software development. You’ll work across a modern microservices platform while helping drive engineering standards, AI adoption and backend architecture as the business continues to modernise its technology estate.

Role: Senior Backend Engineer

Salary: Up to £80,000

Location: UK Fully Remote

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead one of the engineering squads, providing technical direction and mentoring backend developers
  • Design, build and maintain scalable backend services within a microservices architecture
  • Contribute to backend architecture, engineering standards and technical strategy
  • Deliver complex features through a combination of hands-on development and technical leadership
  • Work closely with Product, Front End, QA and DevOps teams throughout the software delivery lifecycle
  • Review code, support technical decision making and help engineers develop their skills
  • Build and maintain APIs, distributed services and cloud-native applications
  • Help drive adoption of AI capabilities across backend services and engineering workflows
  • Support production systems, incident resolution and continuous platform improvements

What you’ll need

  • Strong commercial experience developing applications using C# and.NET
  • Experience building REST APIs and microservices using.NET Core
  • Strong understanding of message-based architectures and distributed systems
  • Experience working with both SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Commercial experience building applications within Microsoft Azure
  • Strong understanding of API design, backend architecture and cloud-native development
  • Experience working within Agile engineering teams
  • Knowledge of unit testing frameworks such as xUnit or NUnit
  • Familiarity with React or React Native to support cross-functional collaboration
  • Experience integrating AI or LLM capabilities into backend services using platforms such as OpenAI or Azure OpenAI
  • Previous experience mentoring engineers or providing technical leadership
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction across multidisciplinary teams

Nice to have

  • Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD)
  • DevOps experience including CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code
  • Experience leading engineering teams or technical squads
  • Knowledge of Agentic AI patterns, orchestration frameworks or MCP
  • Experience with Azure DevOps build and release pipelines

This role would suit a senior backend engineer or technical lead who enjoys combining hands-on engineering with mentoring, architectural decision making and building modern cloud-native platforms using the latest AI technologies
