About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Security & Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will own and enhance core components of our Scala and Python backend systems, ensuring they are secure, reliable, and scalable. Your responsibilities will include designing and deploying backend services, embedding secure-by-default patterns, and leading security initiatives across authentication, authorization, data protection, and infrastructure. This position offers an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys tackling complex backend challenges and has a strong security background, but who also seeks to be involved in broader engineering work beyond traditional security roles.

Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience building and operating production backend systems
- Hands-on experience with security-sensitive systems such as authentication, permissions, secrets management, and data access controls
- Proficiency in Python and Scala, with a preference for candidates experienced in both languages
- Strong understanding of secure practices across data, code, and infrastructure layers
- Experience with modern cloud deployments and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Practical knowledge of security reviews, threat modeling, and system hardening
- Ability to balance feature development with long-term security and scalability goals
- Self-motivated with a track record of ownership and delivering high-quality work without heavy process or QA buffers
- Desire to make a meaningful impact on user safety and system security
Responsibilities
- Design and develop reliable, scalable backend services in collaboration with senior engineering team members
- Build and maintain data pipelines from ingestion through enrichment to delivery
- Develop and operate APIs and backend services that support core platform functionalities
- Implement secure-by-default patterns across services, data flows, and infrastructure components
- Identify potential security risks early in the product development lifecycle and recommend pragmatic solutions
- Guide the engineering team to adopt secure defaults in coding, infrastructure, and workflows
- Harden cloud environments, networks, and services to minimize attack surfaces
- Collaborate with machine learning and data teams to ensure secure handling of models and sensitive data
- Partner with clients to facilitate secure and seamless integrations with our platform
