DevOps/Backend Software Engineer Position at Cambridge

Global software and engineering technology company is seeking an expansion of its software engineering team in Cambridge, offering the chance to work on new development projects for a significant public-facing web/cloud platform, widely used globally by the engineering industries and communities.

The role focuses on hiring Backend Software Engineers to collaborate in cross-functional teams, responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable web services.


Key Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience of at least 5+ years in web service development and system integration
  • Understanding of software architecture principles and design patterns related to web services
  • Knowledge of database design and development, particularly with relational databases
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills capable of:
    • Understanding complex business processes and system workflows
  • Ability to communicate clearly with:
    • Other engineers
    • Non-technical stakeholders
  • A strong sense of product ownership

Technical Requirements

Built-in technical expertise required:

  • Advanced knowledge of backend development using Go and/or Python
  • Experience in designing web services using a "Top-Down" or "Schema-First" approach, with GraphQL being a significant plus
  • Strong proficiency in relational databases (e.g., MySQL)
  • Experience with distributed databases (e.g., AWS RedShift, Snowflake)
  • Familiarity with distributed systems
  • Cloud infrastructure expertise (e.g., AWS, GCP)
  • Containerized development
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with Kubernetes

Working Arrangement
