About the Role
Are you looking for a career-defining Backend Software Engineer role where you can make a real impact? Join a scaling HealthTech Start-up, co-owned by two Cambridge-educated former management consultants, dedicated to revolutionising patient care and social services through cutting-edge technology.
You'll work closely with the CTO to design and architect bleeding-edge solutions leveraging:
- Java / Kotlin for server-side development
- Spring Boot for robust, scalable backend services
- AWS for cloud infrastructure and database management
- TypeScript, React, and Next.js for intuitive, high-performance frontend interfaces
This Greenfield opportunity means you'll help build the beta product from scratch, from intricate business logic to authentication & security frameworks—perfect for engineering minds who thrive in creative problem-solving and hands-on ownership.
The role is 80% remote, with your HQ in London—you’ll visit the office once every three weeks, supplemented by occasional South West client trips to refine bespoke requirements and deliver tailored solutions.

Your Responsibilities
✅ Architecture & Strategy: Collaborate with the CTO to define and implement technical roadmaps, ensuring scalable, future-proof solutions ✅ End-to-end Delivery: Lead from initial design to final deployment, including complex backend logic, APIs, and security layers ✅ Tech Leadership: Make informed, data-driven technical decisions aligned with long-term product strategy ✅ Client & Stakeholder Management: Work directly with clients to capture requirements, present solutions, and drive adoption ✅ Cross-functional Engagement: Bridge technical and business teams, ensuring smooth delivery under tight deadlines
Your Profile
You’re the full-stack engineer we’re looking for:
🔍 Core Technical Fit:
- Proficient 4+ years in Kotlin, Java, Spring Boot, and a proven track record in AWS (EC2, RDS, Lambda, DynamoDB, etc.)
- Experience designing and engineering RESTful/GraphQL APIs, with deep understanding of authentication, RBAC, and fine-grained permission systems
- Skilled in OSI model correlation for performance optimisation and scalable systems architecture
📜 Education & Roles:
- Degree in Computer Science / Engineering or equivalent
- Prior cohorts include numbers geek to director-level – ideally, you’re mature with ownership mindset
