Backend Software Engineer .Net Java Low Latency

Backend Software Engineer / Developer (C# .NET, Java, Low-Latency) (London – up to £90k)

Your role

As a Backend Software Engineer, you will:

  • Collaborate with DevOps and Product Management within an Agile team to develop a Greenfield Market Data platform.
  • Work on a C#-based system deployed to AWS, ensuring high scalability, performance, and low latency.
    • Current scale: 40 billion messages processed daily.
  • Contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle, from requirements and design to production deployment.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on the .NET stack, including:
    • Applied design principles such as SOLID, DRY, and KISS.
  • Utilise technologies including:
    • Apache Flink (Java) for high-scale data processing.
    • Recommending new and emerging technologies as needed.
  • Apply a "best tool for the job" mindset to problem-solving.

About you

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Strong expertise in C#/.NET development, and a familiarity with design patterns (SOLID, DRY, KISS).
  • Experience building scalable, low-latency systems, regardless of industry.
  • API development experience, especially at scale.
  • SQL and database skills.
  • CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) experience.
  • AWS cloud exposure and hands-on experience.
  • Bonus: Exposure to other Java-based technologies, and an openness to learning new languages, frameworks, and tools.
  • Comfortable leveraging AI-driven development tools to enhance productivity.
  • Collaborative leadership with strong communication skills; a willingness to mentor junior team members.
