A Cross Connection Technician job is available with The City of Fort Worth (Water / Customer Care Division / Cross-Connection Section). This position performs backflow assembly and irrigation system installations to ensure residential and commercial facilities have adequate and approved cross connection control methods in place. Conducts permit inspections and plan review of buildings and facilities water distribution systems to prevent contamination of the public potable water supply and private water distribution systems as required by city and state codes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- HS Diploma or GED certification, supplemented by specialized training in assigned trades area
- Four (4) years of experience in technical engineering work, utilities maintenance, construction, plumbing, or a related field, including one year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Possession of or ability to obtain Texas State Master Plumber’s License within one (1) year of employment
- TSBPE Water Supply Protection Specialist (WSPS) endorsement
- Possession of or ability to obtain Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Irrigation Inspectors License
- Possession of or ability to obtain TCEQ, Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) license

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master Plumber License with a Water Safety Protection Specialist (W.S.P.S.) endorsement
- Possession of, or ability to obtain an Irrigation Inspector license from Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
- In-depth knowledge of the International Plumbing Code, Fort Worth Cross-Connection and Plumbing codes
The Cross-Connection Technician job responsibilities include:
- Assist in monitoring cross connection control activities
- Perform plan review and conduct inspections of new and existing building within the water distribution system to eliminate cross connections
- Conduct inspections of new and modified irrigation systems to comply with water conservation, irrigation, and cross connection requirements
- Provide technical support to assigned supervisory personnel with the Water Department
- Handle a high volume of plan review and inspections
- Process technical data including assessment of water system, building, utility and plumbing plans
- Enforce and explain cross connection control and irrigation ordinances
- Maintain appropriate reports of inspections and other correspondence

Medium Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
