Band 2 Clinical Support Worker – Medical Wards 20A & 20B & Intermediate Care (Elmdon)
Job Summary
Are you passionate about delivering high-quality care to older adults and supporting patients living with cognitive impairment?
We are seeking enthusiastic, compassionate Band 2 Clinical Support Workers (CSWs) to join our multidisciplinary teams at Solihull Hospital, across Medical Wards 20A & 20B and the Intermediate Care Community Unit (Elmdon Units 1, 2 & 3).
This rewarding opportunity enables you to deliver person-centred care to older adults with dementia, delirium, and other cognitive impairments within a supportive NHS environment.
Our team prioritises dignity, independence, and wellbeing, providing comprehensive training, development opportunities, and progression paths—including the potential to progress to a Band 3 HCA role upon completing essential competencies within the first year.

Key Responsibilities
You will provide high-quality, caring, and compassionate personal care under the direction of registered professionals. Your duties include:
- Person-centred care delivery
- Supporting patients with activities of daily living (e.g., bathing, dressing, toileting)
- Assisting with nutrition and hydration while respecting dietary requirements
- Monitoring and reporting changes in a patient’s physical and emotional condition
- Promoting mobility and independence while maintaining safety

- Working alongside registered nurses, nursing associates, and Allied Health Professionals
- Contributing to ward organisation, maintaining accurate documentation
- Supporting patients, families, and carers in line with NHS values and policies

Essential Qualities & Skills
We are looking for individuals with:

- Willingness to learn—no prior healthcare experience is necessary; full training will be provided

Advantageous but not essential:
- Experience working with older adults or patients with dementia or cognitive impairments

Person Specification & Basic Requirements
Qualifications (Essential for Band 2 CSW)
- Maths & English at Level 2 (e.g., GCSE Grades 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent)
- Vocational qualification at Level 2 (e.g., Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Support / NVQ)
- For internationally educated applicants: UK ENIC (UK National Information Centre) Statement of Compatibility required
Experience (Essential)
- Teamwork experience as an employee or volunteer
- Ability to articulate understanding of the role’s physical and emotional demands
- Knowledge of how training, consistency, and patient-centred approaches enhance safety and care quality
- Aligned with Trust values (Kind, Bold, Connected): Provide examples demonstrating these in practice
Security & Compliance
- Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check will be conducted in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975.

Salary: £25,272 per annum (Band 2, Agenda for Change) Contract: Permanent Working Pattern: Full-time (other contracts may be available in the wider trust) Location: Solihull Hospital, Lode Ln, Solihull, West Midlands, B91 2JL
