Job Summary
The Runcorn Road Renal Dialysis Unit is a nurse-led outpatient's facility, specially designed to provide high-quality dialysis treatment in the community setting. The specialty is responsible for supporting kidney patients on hemodialysis. As a Health Care Assistant, you will be responsible for participating and assisting in the delivery of care/services to patients, e.g., set up and maintain a safe area for dialysis, correct decontamination of equipment, preparation of hemodialysis machine, etc. The unit consists of 26 stations and operates 6 days a week: working a flexible 3 shift patterns (early, late, and twilight). The Renal Directorate also consists of Hospital Units, and at times the job will require some cross-site work.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
- Providing patient-centered care, for example, personal care, recording observations, infection control, correct decontamination of equipment, preparation of hemodialysis machine, etc.
- Working cooperatively as part of the multi-disciplinary team supporting colleagues in work associated with patient care.
- Understanding own level of responsibility and accountability in relation to registered staff.
- Communicating clearly, effectively, and appropriately with the multidisciplinary team, patients, and their family, visitors, and carers.
- Obtaining verbal consent from the patient before any clinical intervention is undertaken; where this is not given, report this to a registered nurse prior to undertaking the intervention.
- Through practice, demonstrating an understanding of Duty of Care and how this contributes to safe practices.
- Assisting and, as required, providing patients with personal care.
- Following appropriate training and supervised practice, undertaking identified competency-based practices which are required for the ward/unit, after such tasks have been delegated to them by a registered nurse.
- Identifying learning and development needs and producing a personal development plan in conjunction with your line manager/supervisor.
- Achieving and maintaining competence in mandatory and statutory training associated with the role.
- Completing documentation of care in line with the Trust Standards for Documentation.

Essential
- Evidence of Maths/English qualifications at Level 2 or above.
- Completion of a competency-based workbook or equivalent relevant experience to vocational qualification at Level 3, i.e., For level 3 this could include AS/A levels, Access to higher Education Diploma in health care support, Apprenticeships, NVQ Level 3, BTEC national Diploma award, or nationals.
- Care Certificate or can demonstrate prior skills, knowledge, and experience that meet the 15 minimum standards described by Health Education England (HEE) Skills for Health.
- Internationally educated applicants will have to evidence UK ENIC (the UK National Information Centre) Statements of compatibility.

- Previous experience working in a patient-facing clinical support worker role providing direct patient care in health or social care as part of a team.
- Understanding of the principles of safeguarding in relation to this role.
- Ability to demonstrate/articulate an understanding of the role and tasks involved and can describe the physical and emotional aspects of the role and some duties which are different to that of a Band 2 Clinical Support worker.
- Can link the Trust values (Kind, Connected & Bold) to the role and provide examples from personal experience which demonstrate understanding in relation to the role.
- Can explain why training/education and approaches to care need to be consistent in relation to safety and patient experience.
- Can demonstrate ability/experience in supporting patients holistically.

Additional Criteria
Essential
- Good standard of spoken and written English.
- Good communication skills—written and oral.
- Basic computer skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to work with competing priorities/can demonstrate an understanding of workload and how to prioritize this.
- Ability to demonstrate numeracy skills associated with the role, i.e., record volume of fluids/drinks.
- Ability to demonstrate literacy skills associated with the role, i.e., understanding of written information/instructions/duties including policy and procedures.
- Flexible approach to shift patterns and place of work this may include working in different practice settings in different locations dependent upon service need.
