Job Opportunity: Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA)
About the Role
A full-time Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) position is available at Melissa Suite, a female acute mental health inpatient ward.
The OTA will support the mental health and wellbeing of service users by facilitating tailored, meaningful activities, both alone and in groups, in alignment with a multidisciplinary care plan.
The successful applicant will collaborate closely with qualified occupational therapists, nursing staff, and the ward manager to deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions, improving functional abilities and aiding recovery.
The role requires flexibility to work a varied schedule across the week and weekends to meet 7-day service demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate group and 1:1 occupational therapy sessions, fostering engagement in therapeutic programming.
- Supportward-based and community-focused activities, aiding recovery timelines and timely discharges.
- Develop and implement care/therapy plans, working under supervision of Occupational Therapists, alongside nursing staff and ward management.
- Apply the Occupational Therapy Process to assess, plan, and deliver interventions within an in-patient mental health setting.
- Demonstrate dynamic thinking to implement creative, accelerated therapies for diverse service user needs.
- Act as a key team member at Melissa Suite, upholding Trust Values and organisational priorities.

Requirements
- Qualified Occupational Therapy Assistant (or NVQ/qualification equivalent).
- Strong understanding of mental health, occupational therapy principles, and duty of care.
- Experience (or willingness to learn) in community-based and ward-based interventions.
- Flexibility, initiative, and a creative approach to therapy adaptation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals across disciplines.
- Compassionate, inclusive attitude, aligned with NHS values and principles.
