Job Summary

We are looking for enthusiastic, experienced Pharmacy Assistants with a flexible working approach to deliver a high-quality patient-focused Pharmacy service.

You must be able to demonstrate good communication and organisational skills, working independently and as part of a team. Providing mentoring and training to junior staff, you will provide a leading role within the team. The job is a busy and physically demanding role, and you will be expected to work to deadlines. You will also be involved in maintaining the Pharmacy Service to wards and departments on a rotational basis.

Dispensary, Stores and Distribution Teams

You will be required to work as part of our main dispensary team; delivering a high-quality dispensing service.

Within the Stores area you will ensure the safe and secure receipt and storage of medicines.

Within the Distribution area you will contribute to effective stock management at ward level by working within the topping up and distribution services.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

Main duties and tasks:

  • To interpret and accurately dispense prescriptions and requests for medication
  • To participate in stock supply to wards and departments and re-order as necessary
  • To receive goods into the department, unpack, check and put away deliveries against relevant paperwork
  • To participate in the induction and training of staff

There will be a requirement to participate in extended hours; including weekend working, bank holidays and late nights on a rotational basis.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Be educated to secondary school level and hold GSCE or equivalent (Grade C/4 or above) in Math's and English.
  • Hold or working towards a NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent (this must include the dispensing module).

Experience and Knowledge

  • Post NVQ level 2 qualification (or equivalent) developmental experience of a range of dispensing with formal training and annual revalidated accreditation as a dispenser
  • Understanding of dispensing, stock control and supply systems and processes

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE grade C/4 or above in Mathematics and English (or equivalent)
  • NVQ level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF), BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science

or

Accredited Dispensing Assistants Course (NPA)

Experience

Essential

  • Post NVQ level 2 qualification developmental experience of a range of dispensing with formal training and annual revalidated accreditation as a dispenser
  • Understanding of pharmacy related computer systems
  • Understanding of Health and Safety at Work, manual handling and COSHH
  • Understanding of dispensing, stock control and supply systems and processes
  • Knowledge of stock control systems
  • Knowledge of code of practice/customer care
  • Understands the need for delivering a cost effective service and the required work practices to reduce waste

Desirable

  • Previous experience within a Hospital Pharmacy setting
  • Experience in staff training
  • Working Knowledge of JAC pharmacy system
  • Knowledge of drugs, side effects & where to find further information
