Clinical Associates in Psychology - Job Description
A new occupation, developed for implementation in England, as part of a programme to provide greater access to psychologically informed mental health services.
Clinical Associates in Psychology fill an identified skills gap between usually trainees and qualified clinical psychologists. Acting autonomously under appropriate supervision within their scope of practice, they provide evidence-based psychological interventions, derive formulations using specialist assessments, and work with diverse populations across the lifespan.
- Core responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based psychological interventions
- Conduct assessments using specialist tools
- Work with specific vulnerabilities (serious mental illness, learning disabilities, autism, diverse cultural backgrounds)
- Provide interventions within a defined scope of practice
