Job Summary
You will be a key member of the pharmacy trials team and work closely with our research teams based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Heartlands Hospital, and our external research partners, helping set up and deliver trials to our patients.
You will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day delivery of the pharmacy trials service to ensure the safe and timely dispensing of clinical trial medication in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) in the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Dispensary and Pharmacy Aseptic Unit.
Although desirable, there is no requirement to have experience working within clinical trials or in an aseptic unit, as full training will be provided. However, you must have excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills and be able to show you are self-motivated and flexible in your approach to your work to meet the requirements for the pharmacy trials service.
You Will Have
- A nationally recognised Pharmacy Technician qualification and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council;
- An accredited accuracy checking qualification, be working towards this qualification or be willing to work towards this.
- A flexible approach and good time management skills
- Good IT and communication skills
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
The main responsibilities of the post holder will be:
- To perform a variety of general pharmacy duties under the supervision of a pharmacist or technician in all aspects of clinical trials medicine management including ordering, receipting, deliveries, dispensing, and temperature monitoring of clinical trial medicines.
- To be involved in maintaining financial records, completing drug accountability activities, and networking with research teams across the trust and with external representatives.
- To be able to deal with enquiries in an efficient, polite, and courteous manner. Providing a caring and helpful service to other members of staff, patients, and the general public.
You will lead in providing excellent customer service, acting as a role model to other members of the dispensary team.

Qualifications
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 Diploma (QCF) in Pharmacy
- Service Skills and Level 3 Diploma (QCF) in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent as defined by the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain
- Dispensing Accuracy Accreditation, West Midlands scheme or equivalent, or working towards.
- Registered as a Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Accredited Checking Technician West Midlands scheme or equivalent, or working towards.
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working in a hospital setting
- Practical experience of aseptic work
- Working knowledge of a broad range of medicines and their safety issues
- Experience of working within a pharmacy team
- Demonstrates an understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession
- Demonstrates the ability to handle safely and competently pharmaceutical equipment and medicines used in the dispensing process
- Evidence of Continual Professional Development (CPD)
- Medication counselling experience
Desirable
- Experience of working within clinical trials
- Providing specialist technical advice to others, i.e., manufacturing methods
- Contribution to technical education of less experienced staff, students, or assistants
- Training experience
- Supervisory experience
- Audit experience
