Main duties of the job
- To competently carry out imaging examinations in main x-ray, ED X-ray, on the wards and theatre suites.
- To ensure that all examinations are justified as per the IR(ME)R 2017 Regulations and fulfil the role of operator. To minimise radiation dose levels as low as reasonably practical.
- To display a high degree of precision and hand eye coordination to produce accurate images in a timely manner
- To assess and prioritise patient workload, being accountable for own professional actions, conduct not directly supervised.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- To be responsible for patients during imaging examinations, and be able to adapt care dependent upon age, condition and clinical need, demonstrating empathy and reassurance. This will entail assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the patient’s condition. Safe handling and moving of patients utilising correct procedures and equipment when required.
- To advise and ensure correct physical and psychological preparation for imaging procedures. Communicate complex sensitive information, relevant to the patient’s condition, overcoming barriers to understanding.
- To participate in CPD and other developmental activities, developing specialist skills. To be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice, maintain and develop personal portfolio.
- To be responsible for the safe use of expensive specialised equipment. This will entail monitoring and maintaining in good working order. Evaluate the problem, and report any faults to a more senior radiographer.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc in Diagnostic Radiography
- HCPC registered
- NHS Experience
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of postgraduate study or relevant CPD in diagnostic imaging
- Student mentorship or training (at any level)
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- High level of anatomy knowledge relevant to radiography
- Good knowledge of pathologies and disease processes viewed on X-ray
- In depth knowledge of IRMER
Desirable criteria
- Have knowledge of data protection in healthcare
Skills
Essential criteria
- Computer literate
- Being familiar with and able to use a Radiology Information System (RIS)
- Competent in producing high quality diagnostic X-ray images for all patient types
- Has undergone training in theatre imaging, fluoroscopy, dental X-ray, A&E, general and portable X-rays
Desirable criteria
- Basic awareness of audit, quality improvement, or service development
- Good understanding of patient care and communication, including anxious or vulnerable patients
