Job Summary

This is an excellent opportunity for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join an exciting, vibrant team and speciality.

You will be provided ample opportunities to develop and enhance your clinical skills and learning.

This is an Out Patient department providing a Monday to Friday clinic service.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

The successful candidate will support the Consultant Ophthalmologists to facilitate the clinical service and run outpatient clinics.

The successful candidate would be required to be flexible and to integrate within a large team of nurses to deliver an excellent service to the patients.

Ophthalmology experience is desirable but not essential, as full training and support will be provided.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to Professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register i.e. (Adult / Child / Learning Disability or Mental Health)
  • Evidence of undergraduate education for newly qualified nurses / or post graduate continuing professional development for registered nurses who have post registration experience

Experience

Essential

  • Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary health and care setting (can include undergraduate student placements within the last 12 months)
  • Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
  • Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct and the proficiencies and standards for registered nurses can apply this to undergraduate training or post graduate practice
  • Being an accountable professional
  • Promoting health and preventing ill health
  • Assessing needs and planning care
  • Providing and evaluating care
  • Leading and managing nursing care and working in teams -- including prioritisation and delegation skills
  • Coordinating care and responding to deteriorating health
  • Improving safety and quality of care
  • Awareness of current relevant clinical and professional issues and NHS policy
  • Understanding / experience of the principles of Safeguarding and Mental Capacity
  • Awareness of Health and Safety issues.

Desirable

  • Experience in working in an Acute NHS practice setting as an undergraduate student nurse or post graduate registered nurse.
