Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist

Newly Qualified/Early-Career Speech and Language Therapist (Band 5) – Acute Role

About the Role

An exceptional opportunity exists for a newly qualified or early-career Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join our supportive Acute Speech and Language Therapy Team.

This generalist rotational role covers adult services, providing experience in assessing and managing communication and swallowing disorders across diverse clinical areas.

You will collaborate with experienced therapists and the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care, under supervision and guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessment & Treatment: Provide evidence-based therapy for patients with communication and/or swallowing difficulties, working under supervision.
  • Caseload Management: Prioritise and organise a defined caseload effectively.
  • Collaborative Care: Work closely with ward teams, dietitians, nurses, and medical staff to improve patient outcomes.
  • Patient Education: Contribute to communication strategies and dietary advice for patients and carers.
  • Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with professional standards.
  • Professional Development: Engage in training, supervision, and service development activities.

Requirements

  • Newly qualified or early-career SLT with Basic Life Support (BLS) training.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to further clinical development and professional growth.
  • Ability to work independently with appropriate supervision.

  • Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow
  • Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI)
  • Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal
  • Community premises, including:
    • Millom Hospital
    • Queen Victoria Hospital (Morecambe)
    • Ulverston Community Health Centre
    • GP practices (e.g., acute and community healthcare settings across Morecambe Bay)

Our Acute Teams operate across:

  • General Hospital Services (emergency departments, critical care, consultant-led units).
  • Community-based Care (homes, clinics, GP practices) to support healthcare independence.
