Band 5 Registered Nurses – Haematology & Oncology Day Unit
Heartlands Hospital, Birmingham
Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 5 Registered Nurses to join the team on the Haematology & Oncology Day Unit at Heartlands Hospital.
We are seeking registered nurses with:
- Significant post-registration clinical experience
- A specific interest in haematology/oncology nursing
- Cannulation, phlebotomy, and IV administration competency Desirable (but not essential):
- Proficiency in chemotherapy administration, including vesicant boluses (training provided if required).
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based clinical care aligned to person-centred standards
- Perform essential nursing/clinical procedures with confidence, grounded in theoretical and practical knowledge
- Apply current clinical knowledge to assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate care
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring all interactions are patient-focused
- Work collaboratively with teams to influence best practice and promote effective communication

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Skills
- Professional registration as a Registered Nurse (Adult, Mental Health, Child, or Learning Disability) on the NMC register
- Evidence of continuing professional development (post-registration training or postgraduate study)
Essential Experience
- Recent or previous acute care experience (including undergraduate clinical placements in the last 12 months)
- Commitment to supervisory/assessment (currently meets NMC standards for student placements or has capacity to progress)
- Proficiency in the NMC Code and its application in clinical practice (education/supervision)
- Accountability in nursing practice
- Competency in:
- Promoting health & illness prevention
- Assessing needs & planning care
- Delivering and evaluating care
- Leading/managing nursing care and coordination
- Deteriorating patient care (e.g., escalation & response)
- Improving safety and quality
- Awareness of safeguarding, mental capacity, and health/safety regulations

Desirable Experience
- Previous experience in an Acute NHS setting as a student or qualified nurse
Additional Requirements
- Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check – Mandatory under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1975).
- UK professional registration required (see UKVI guidance).
- Skilled Worker sponsorship available for eligible applicants: Current and future qualifications as outlined on UK Visas & Immigration.

- Salary: £32,073.00 – £39,043.00 per annum (full-time)
- Contract Type: Fixed-Term
- Duration: 12 months
