Job Introduction
Are you a passionate Registered Nurse looking to develop your career within Children's Public Health and School Nursing services?
We are seeking a motivated Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our 0-19 Healthy Families Service based in Lancaster. Working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will help deliver key elements of the Healthy Child Programme, providing both universal and targeted support to children, young people and their families.
This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside School Nurses, Health Visitors and wider partner agencies to improve health outcomes, support vulnerable children and families, and promote wellbeing across local communities.
This is a fixed-term opportunity for 12 months with a full time role (37.5 hours) and a part-time role (15 hours) available.
About The Role
As a Staff Nurse, you will:
- Deliver components of the Healthy Child Programme under the guidance of School Nurses and Health Visitors.
- Assess the health and wellbeing needs of children, young people and families, identifying where additional support or specialist intervention is required.
- Support children and families with a range of public health issues, including emotional wellbeing, healthy lifestyles, smoking cessation, healthy weight and sexual health.
- Deliver school-based health initiatives, including health assessments, drop-in sessions and targeted interventions.
- Contribute to safeguarding, child protection and multi-agency working to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people.
- Build strong relationships with schools, families and partner organisations.
- Support students and junior colleagues through mentoring and supervision opportunities.
What We're Looking For
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Experience of health promotion and public health activities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection principles.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organisational, record-keeping and IT skills.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Previous experience within community, school nursing, health visiting, safeguarding or children's services would be advantageous.
