Band 5 Staff Nurse/ODP Vacancy – Tower and Nuffield Theatres
About the Role
We are seeking a Band 5 Staff Nurse/ODP to contribute to the perioperative care of patients across Tower and Nuffield theatres, recovery, scrub, admissions, ambulatory, and discharge lounges. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Assessing perioperative care needs
- Planning, implementing, and evaluating care without direct supervision
- Supervising junior staff and student nurses where required
- Driving clinical practice development in theatre settings
- Providing autonomous, safe, and person-centred care
- Contributing to dignity, safety, and quality assurance in every interaction
Key Responsibilities
Core Duties & Expected Tasks
- Admit surgical patients in adherence to clinical guidelines
- Scrub/circulate in orthopaedic theatres to ensure sterile environments
- Manage post-operative recovery in dedicated units
- Act as part of an internal rotation programme, enhancing multidisciplinary skills
- Coordinate theatre lists, ward rounds, and departmental duties
- Lead Trust initiatives, Audit, and Quality Improvement projects
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to inform care plans
- Ensure safe and timely discharge planning aligns with patient needs
- Perform various nursing procedures/treatments (e.g., venepuncture, wound care)
- Take clear patient histories while maintaining accurate documentation
- Monitor prescribed observations: blood pressure, temperature, respiration, blood sugars, urinalysis, weight, and height
- Administer medications reliably, including blood product transfusions under supervision
