Children’s Occupational Therapist – Band 6 (Essex)

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate, innovative Band 6 Children’s Occupational Therapist to join our Community Children’s Therapy Team in Essex. Are you a caring OT with expertise in paediatrics, looking to:

Main Responsibilities

Clinical & Patient-Care Focus

  • Manage and prioritise your independent caseload
  • Conduct assessments for children with performance difficulties
  • Develop tailored self-management plans for patients and families
  • Recommend and arrange specialist equipment for home/school use
  • Collaborate on treatment plans with patients, carers, and multidisciplinary teams

Service Improvement & Collaboration

  • Support Team Lead and Therapies Manager to meet service targets
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and governance procedures
  • Engage in supervision, training, and team meetings

Documentation & Skills

  • Write assessment reports and select appropriate interventions
  • Deliver and evaluate therapies to ensure positive outcomes

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a dedicated Band 6 Occupational Therapist with:

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified Occupational Therapist (degree/diploma) with HCPC registration
  • Minimum 2 years postgraduate experience in paediatrics
  • Experience working with children with neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g., ADHD, autism)
  • Strong up-to-date CPD credentials

Key Skills

  • Proficiency in paediatric assessments and interventions
  • In-depth knowledge of child development (typical and atypical)
  • Ability to create SMART goal-based treatment plans
  • Proficiency in specialist equipment and postural management
  • MDA (multi-disciplinary collaboration) expertise (working with education/social care teams)
  • EHCP (Education, Health & Care Plan) process
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Flexible and empathic approach
