Health Visitor Role – Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Services

Job Introduction

Main Responsibilities

Primary Duties

  • Deliver the Healthy Child Programme (health assessment, care planning, evaluation)
  • Use Family Health Needs Assessment and Early Help Assessment tools to align care with identified needs
  • Design individualised care plans for children (0–5, extendable to 19 via the developmental pathway) in collaboration with parents/carers
  • Coordinate care with external agencies, taking a lead professional role when necessary
  • Apply evidence-based practice to ensure high-quality, cost-effective public health nursing

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Mentor pre-registration and SCPHN students in placements
  • Provide preceptorship support to new staff (training available from our Practice Education team)
  • Ensure safeguarding supervision is part of your governance responsibilities

Ideal Candidate

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • SCPHN (Specialist Community Public Health Nurse) qualification
  • NMC registration (current)
  • Experience in ST improvement/safeguarding for families and vulnerable children
  • Commitment to driving innovative improvements within the role
  • Valid UK driving licence and access to a work car
