About the Role
An exciting yet challenging time for Maternity Services at Great Western Hospitals (GWH) as we embrace improvement and development.
We welcome self-motivated, professional midwives with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to join our proactive, compassionate team. If you are passionate about providing high-quality, family-centred care, we’d love to hear from you!
Key points:
- Part-time roles offered (pro rata salary based on available hours).
- Opportunities for both experienced and newly qualified midwives.
- Supportive preceptorship programme with a dedicated Preceptorship Lead Midwife.
Job Responsibilities
The role involves providing holistic midwifery care across:
- Antenatal, Intrapartum, and Postnatal settings.
- Hospital, Birth Centre, Day Assessment Unit, Maternity Triage, and Transitional Care Unit.
Core Duties
- Deliver gold-standard care with "kindness and compassion" to birthing families.
- Work shifts including nights and on-call duties.
- Complete an orientation programme with continuing support throughout your role.

- Requires shift and on-call work (including nights).
Person Specification & Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- NMC registration (current, active).
- Registered Midwife status.
- Up-to-date professional portfolio.
- Training in obstetric emergencies.
- Degree level in midwifery (or equivalent diploma + experience).

Desirable Qualifications
- Teaching/Mentoring qualification.
Essential Experience
- Recent practical experience across all aspects of midwifery (antenatal to postnatal).
- Completed Preceptorship period (where applicable).
- UK maternity intrapartum experience.
Desirable Experience
- Evidence of ongoing professional/academic development.
- Mentoring experience (ideal for experienced midwives).
Additional Information
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required (per the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act)**).
- Certificate of Sponsorship: Applications welcome from Skilled Worker visa holders (and dependants >18).
