Senior Physiotherapist – Band 6 Job Opportunity – University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust

About the Role

Would you like an opportunity to develop your skills & knowledge across a wide range of specialities, working alongside highly skilled Clinical Specialist and Consultant Physiotherapists?

We are seeking a Senior Physiotherapist (Band 6) to join our rotating team across specialist acute & outpatient departments. Your responsibilities will span:

  • Trauma (including Major Trauma)
  • Respiratory Medicine
  • Oncology & Haematology
  • Critical Care
  • Neurosciences
  • Stroke
  • Burns & Plastics
  • Cardiothoracic & Specialist Surgery (including regional transplant centre)
  • Elderly Care
  • OPAL (Older Persons Assessment and Liaison)
  • MSK, Neurology & Respiratory Outpatients

Main Duties, Responsibilities & Skills Required

  • Have successfully completed an NHS core rotation in Respiratory and possess Respiratory on-call experience
  • Demonstrated experience in managing Musculoskeletal & Neurological conditions
  • Support, supervise, teach, and mentor Band 5 physiotherapists, trainees, and placement students
  • Exhibit confidence in communication, leadership, clinical prioritisation, and delegation

Qualifications (Essential)

✅ Appropriate physiotherapy qualification (e.g., MCSP, BSc/MSc) ✅ HCPC state registration ✅ CSP or equivalent professional membership ✅ Advanced clinical CPD portfolio demonstrating continued education ✅ Accredited postgraduate courses

Desirable: ⚡ Attendance in Clinical Educator courses ⚡ Evidence of leadership/competency workshops

Experience (Essential)

🏥 Relevant post-registration NHS exposure, with experience in acute care, MSK, Neurology & Respiratory 👩‍⚕️ Staff management skills (incl. supervision & mentoring) 🩺 Deep, complex clinical expertise in cases spanning acute & chronic conditions 🧠 Expertise in anatomy/physiology 📊 Familiarity with Clinical Governance (Quality, Audit, Risk) 🧪 Understanding the clinical research cycle (evidence-based practice) ⚖️ Knowledge of professional legal responsibilities

💻 Proficient IT & data skills (healthcare platforms, statistics) ⚠️ Duplicate experience in legal requirements out of previous sections has been consolidated

Salary & Contract Details

💰 Band 6 status under Agenda for Change (AFC) 💰 Salary range: £39,959 - £48,117 per annum 📅 Permanent, full-time role with flexible working options 📍 Location: Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Mindelsohn Way, Birmingham, B15 2TH
