Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse – Permanent Position, Ward 4
About the Role
As a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse, you are the most senior nursing role on the ward, serving as a visible and prominent leader in the absence of the Ward Manager.
- Visible leadership: You’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the ward, ensuring high standards of care and support.
- Staff mentorship: Approachable and supportive to all staff, you’ll offer guidance, lead by example, and assist junior team members in delivering excellent care.
- Clinical expertise: Uphold standards of care through hands-on experience and knowledgeable decision-making.
- Collaborative support: Work alongside the Ward Manager and Matron to ensure smooth operations and compliance with Trust Policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Ward management: Oversee the daily functioning of the ward, ensuring safety, efficiency, and adherence to clinical standards.
- Clinical leadership: Provide high-quality, hands-on care while guiding junior nurses in their roles.
- Staff development: Offer mentorship, advice, and support to improve the professional skillset of the team.
- Patient-centred care: Understand and manage the factors that influence patient care and experience.
- Trust compliance: Ensure full adherence to NHS policies, protocols, and guidelines.

Person Specification
We’re seeking an innovative, highly motivated, forward-thinking nurse with:
- A proven track record of ward management using clinical expertise and strong leadership.
- Experience in supporting multidisciplinary teams while maintaining the highest standards.
- A ‘hands-on’ mindset with the ability to adapt to the dynamic demands of a busy hospital ward.
- An understanding of patient segment diversity and strategies to enhance patient and staff experience.
- Full compliance with NHS policies and a commitment to continuous improvement.
