Highly Specialist Prosthetist – Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

About the Role
The Highly Specialist Prosthetist will be an experienced clinician working closely with the Clinical Lead Prosthetist and Multidisciplinary Team to ensure the provision of safe, high-quality care for all patients. Responsibilities include:
- Designing suitable and cost-effective prosthetic prescriptions for adults and children affected by limb loss.
- Supporting and managing the team to enhance service development and achieve best outcomes for prosthetic users.
- Providing advice and collaboration with wider West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre services and satellite locations as required.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Assessing and developing individualised treatment plans for patients with highly complex disabilities.
- Performing challenging casting/shape capture techniques.
- Fitting bespoke prosthetic devices to paediatric and adult populations.

Service Management
- Managing own caseload and supervising prosthetists and trainees.
- Ensuring efficient, cost-effective delivery and development of the prosthetic service.
Technical Expertise
- Specifying, evaluating, and modifying prosthetic devices (including positive model rectifications).
- Collaborating with manufacturing workshops to ensure safety, quality, and technical accuracy of bespoke prostheses.
Communication & Documentation
- Clearly conveying complex and sensitive information to patients, carers, and team members.
- Maintaining accurate, confidential patient records aligned with professional standards.
Leadership & Development
- Providing clinical leadership and assisting in developing evidence-based services.
- Contributing to research and audits, delivering training, and managing projects in-line with service needs.
Safety & Compliance
- Conducting risk assessments and maintaining equipment safety.
- Adhering to legal frameworks for consent and capacity.
- Demonstrating full proficiency with clinical and manufacturing tools used for prostheses fabrication and adjustment.
- Documentation of every clinical contact.
