Advanced MSK Physiotherapist – Outpatient Physiotherapy Service

Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our forward-thinking and highly dynamic Outpatient Physiotherapy service. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated clinician to become a key member of our expert MSK team.
This role offers the chance to work within a progressive service delivering advanced assessment, management, and treatment of a diverse MSK patient population. Our department provides a wide range of innovative services, including:
- Diagnostic ultrasound
- Injection therapy
- Hydrotherapy
- Gym-based rehabilitation
- First Contact Practitioner (FCP) clinics
- Shockwave therapy
- Acupuncture
You will play a pivotal role in providing clinical leadership, supporting and mentoring junior staff and students, and actively contributing to the training and development of the wider team. The role involves collaborating with Trauma & Orthopaedics consultants, clinical specialists, and MSK therapy leads to shape and enhance clinical pathways.

Main Duties, Responsibilities & Key Skills Required
- Deliver advanced Physiotherapy assessment, advice, and treatment of patients and act as an expert reference point for colleagues, Trust managers, healthcare professionals, and external services.
- Lead advanced therapeutic assessment, management, and treatment of MSK patients, including those with diverse or complex presentations (e.g., pain, rheumatology), developing and delivering individualised specialist treatment programmes.
- Work under Consultant supervision in clinic settings and assist with 18-week target goals. Role will be flexible depending on service demand, with a primary site identified.
- Lead First Contact Practitioner (FCP) services, delivering MSK outpatient clinics.
- Train and mentor staff/students, conduct clinical audits, and promote evidence-based practice.
- Initiate or participate in research within the specialist MSK area.
- Apply analytical and judgement-based skills to plan, develop, and deliver strategic and operational management of the therapy service, in collaboration with Lead therapists and managers.
- Supervise, manage, and appraise staff and students within the specialist MSK domain.

Qualifications
Essential
- Good standard of general education (GCSE English and Maths, grades C or above)
- A Levels or equivalent qualification
- Degree or diploma in Physiotherapy
- Registered with the HCPC (Health & Care Professions Council)
- Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD), including recent postgraduate training relevant to clinical speciality

Desirable
- Evidence of leadership training
- Fieldwork Educator’s certificate or attendance at a Clinical Educators Course
Experience
Essential
- Substantial post-registration experience spanning broad healthcare settings.
- Significant MSK experience (e.g., Acute/Specialist clinics for Pain, Rheumatology).
- Developed clinical expertise in managing diverse MSK conditions.
- Proven staff management/leadership experience.
- Experience in interdisciplinary working, team/service development, and change management.
- Ability to handle sensitive, potentially conflict-laden situations (e.g., aggression).
- Specialist theoretical/practical knowledge in physiotherapy procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to analystise, evaluate, and implement solutions under ambiguous scenarios.
- Commitment to legislation and fluency in its application to clinical practice.
- Participation in postgraduate courses relevant to specialist area, mandatory training, in-service training, and a CPD portfolio.
Desirable
- Experience in recruitment and selection procedures.
- Ability to produce reports and analyse data.
- Conducting appraisals and team leadership.
- Pilates qualification/training.
- Regular involvement in audits, research, and development (R&D) activities.
