Outpatient Physiotherapy Clinician – MSK Advanced Role
Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our forward-thinking and highly dynamic Outpatient Physiotherapy service. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated clinician to become a key member of our expert MSK team.
This role offers a chance to work within a progressive service delivering advanced assessment, management, and treatment of a diverse MSK patient population. Our department provides a diverse range of innovative services, including:
- Diagnostic ultrasound
- Injection therapy
- Hydrotherapy
- Gym-based rehabilitation
- First Contact Practitioner (FCP) clinics
- Shockwave therapy
- Acupuncture
The role involves clinical leadership, mentoring junior staff and students, and contributing to training and team development. You’ll collaborate with Trauma & Orthopaedics consultants, clinical specialists, and MSK therapy leads, helping to refine and enhance clinical pathways across the service.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver advanced physiotherapy assessment, advice, and treatment to patients, serving as an expert resource for:
- Fellow clinicians
- Trust managers
- Healthcare professionals (both internal and external)
- Lead advanced therapeutic assessment and management of MSK patients with diverse presentations, including:
- Complex physical and psychological conditions
- Pain and rheumatology
- Develop and implement individualised specialist treatment programmes
- Work under consultant supervision in clinic settings as required and assist with 18-week targets
- Operate within the FCP service, supporting MSK outpatient teams

Key Contributions
- Training and development of clinical practice and service resilience
- Conduct clinical audits and evaluate evidence-based practice
- Engage in research within the specialist area
- Use analytical judgement to plan, develop, and implement strategic and operational management of therapy services, in collaboration with Lead therapists and managers
- Manage, supervise, and appraise staff and students within the specialist area

Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential)
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade C or Above)
- A Levels (or equivalent)
- Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy
- HCPC Registration
- Evidence of CPD, including recent postgraduate training relevant to clinical specialism
Desirable Qualifications
- Leadership training
- Fieldwork Educator’s Certificate or attendance at a Clinical Educators Course
Experience (Essential)
- Substantial post-registration experience in MSK across varied settings (acute/specialist clinics, e.g., pain, rheumatology).
- Highly developed professional and clinical skills
- Experience in effective staff management and leadership
- Interdisciplinary working, team/development, and change management
- Ability to handle sensitive patient interactions, including verbal/physical aggression or challenging behaviours
- Specialist MSK knowledge, including theoretical and practical expertise across routine and non-routine procedures
- Critical decision-making for complex cases, including legislative understanding and evidence-based practice
- Mandatory/high-impact CPD activity (e.g., specialist postgraduate courses, in-service training)
