Band 8a Clinical/Counselling/Forensic Psychologist
** vacancy within Children and Young People's Division (Forward Thinking Birmingham)**
Within the Personality and Complex Trauma (PACT) Team, we offer intensive and longer-term interventions to support children, young people (age 14 to 25), their carers, and families in Birmingham. Our team provides focused support for individuals with high levels of distress and risk while working with diverse family needs.
The PACT Team is small but welcoming, valuing a collaborative and friendly working environment.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist, or Forensic Psychologist with expertise in supporting children, young people, and their families. If you are passionate about developing your skills to specialise in personality disorders, complex trauma, and behavioural needs, and eager to take on leadership roles within a community setting, this is an excellent opportunity for progression.
This role offers a holistic application of psychological expertise, encompassing consultation, training, supervision, service development, leadership, and research alongside direct clinical work.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical services to children and young people with complex mental health and behavioural challenges
- Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver multi-level and integrated care
- Contribute to complex case assessment, formulation, and evidence-based psychological interventions (including both individual and group settings)
- Enhance expertise in working with diverse BAME communities and in areas of high socioeconomic deprivation
- Service development through research and teaching as part of the job plan
- Support the team’s existing track record in clinical innovation and fostering professional growth
- Foster a multicultural, inclusive approach that meets the diverse needs of our service users

Person Specification
Experience & Qualifications
- Qualified Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist, or Forensic Psychologist
- Extensive experience in child and adolescent mental health and behavioural disorders
- Knowledge of complex trauma, personality disorders, and psychological interventions for distressed young people
- Familiarity with working in diverse and socioeconomically disadvantaged communities
- Demonstrated ability to work within multidisciplinary teams

The Likely Remuneration
The role is part of a major diversification programme that has seen significant investment inrole development and stimulation, including supporting higher pay rate entry into this post. The starting salary for this post is £57,487 – £72,704 p.a. We can pay up to £76,197, subject to experience/exceptions.
