Band A Dental Officer
Clinical Dental Practitioner (or Dental Therapist) – Band 6, NHS Wales
Job Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, flexible team player with exceptional communication skills to deliver clinical dental treatment aligned with Band A NHS policies in Welsh Government directives. We also welcome dental therapists who operate within the scope of the General Dental Council (GDC).
** Employment terms**: Commencing at Band 6 salary under A4C agreements.
Core Role Purpose
This is a unique opportunity to expand access to NHS dental care by providing a full spectrum of top-tier treatments to diverse patient groups. Based at our Corwen Dental Clinic, you’ll work as part of a multi-disciplinary team—collaborating with dental nurses and therapists to create a skill-mixed approach to patient care.
As part of our team, you’ll:
- Be supported in clinical skill development.
- Engage in service improvement through governance, audit, and peer review.
About the Organisation
Part of the North Wales Community Dental Service—a service employing over 200 staff—committed to continued professional development (CPD).
Key Service Offerings:
- Inhalation sedation training and services ( widespread across sites).
- IV sedation services available.
- General anaesthetic dental care provided at three District General Hospitals.
- Support from a visiting Paediatric Consultant (Alder Hey Hospital).
- Enhanced services:
- Dentoalveolar Surgery for intermediate cases.
- Integrative Special Care Dentistry support for Head & Neck Cancer MDTs.
- Direct Access and Inhalation Sedation training for therapists.
- A focus on skill-mix models.

Main Responsibilities
Primary Duties
- Provide varied NHS dental treatments under the General Dental Service (GDS) scheme.
- May assist in ** Community Dental Service (CDS)** duties as specified in Band A guidelines.
- Consult the attached job description and personal specification for full accountability parameters.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Full deregistration with the GDC.
- Bachelor’s degree in Dental Surgery or equivalent.
- Commitment to post-graduate CPD (demonstrated).
- Certification in Safeguarding (both Adult and Child).
- Immediate Life Support (ILS) & Paediatric IMmediate Life Support (pILS).
- UK-accredited Vocational Training (or recognized equivalency).
Desirable
- Membership of professional societies.
- Academic or clinical qualifications in specialties.
- UK NHS Performer Number (Wales).

Experience
Essential
- Recent NHS experience (preferably in CDS/Specialist/Primary Care).
- Broad experience in general dentistry (all age groups).
- Compliance with safeguarding policies, and detection protocols.
Desirable
- Relevant experience in other dental specialities (i.e offences processing, Emergency Dental Care).
- Deletion with Dental Care Professionals.
Personal Skills
Essential
- Strong teamwork ability (communication, leadership, and team motivation).
- Self-motivated.
- Proficient prioritization and workforce.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Orientation: delegation and whole-dental-workforce integration (with therapists/hygienists).
- Computer competency.
Desirable
- Experience with dental practice management software.
