Band A Dental Officer
Clinical Dental Practitioner (Band 6) – Corwen Dental Clinic
Job Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, flexible, and motivated team player with exceptional communication skills to deliver NHS dental care in line with Band A job description guidelines and Welsh Government (WG) policy.
A Dental Therapist also with meet GDC scope of practice requirements is welcome for this role, which operates under A4C agreements and begins at Band 6 salary.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a comprehensive range of high-quality NHS dental care to diverse patient groups, improving access to services.
- Work as a General Dental Practitioner at our Corwen Dental Clinic, collaborating closely with dental nurses and therapists through a multi-disciplinary, skill-mixed approach to patient care.
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit, and peer review, while receiving support to develop your clinical and service improvement skills.
- Contribute towards Service Improvement through workload monitoring, audit, utilisation and quality issues, service improvement projects and looking at ways to meet the Quality Assurance Framework.
Working for the Organisation
As part of North Wales Community Dental Service, our team of 200+ staff is dedicated to continuous professional development. Our services include:
- Mandatory training in Inhalation Sedation for most dentists and therapists.
- Access to Vascular Sedation Services.
- General Anaesthetic Services across three District General Hospitals.
- Expert support from a Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry (Alder Hey Hospital).
- Specialist Services, including:
- Intermediate Tier Dentoalveolar Surgery.
- Special Care Dentistry for Head and Neck Cancer MDT.
- Direct Access and Inhalation Sedation Training for Therapists.

Detailed Job Description
Core Duties
You will provide holistic dental care under General Dental Services (GDS) arrangements, aligned to Directorship policy.
- You may undertake Community Dental Service (CDS) duties, as specified in the Band A Dental Officer job description (see attached document for full details).
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Full registration with the General Dental Council (GDC).
- Bachelor in Dental Surgery (BDS) or equivalent qualification.
- Evidence of postgraduate Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Certificate in Safeguarding (Child & Adult).
- Current Infant Life Support (ILS) and Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- UK-accredited Vocational Training (or equivalence).
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification demonstrating advanced clinical skills.
- Membership of a professional organisation/learned society.
- NHS Performer Number (Wales).

- Recent experience in CDS/Salaried Service or GDS (in Wales).
- Full-lifecycle expertise in general dentistry.
- Care provided to all ages, including complex or vulnerable patients.
Desirable
- Experience in other dental specialities (e.g., paediatric, orthodontics, oral surgery).
- Deployment of Dental Care Professionals (DCPs).
- Experience in emergency dental services (EDS)/safety net provision.
