The Role

You will provide universal and targeted support for children and young people (0–19) while ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care. Key duties include:

  • Leadership & Team Management:
    • Oversee a skill-mixed 0-19 team, conduct staff appraisals, and mentor junior nurses.
    • Prioritise high-risk cases and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Health Promotion & Care Delivery:
    • Deliver assessments, immunisations, and specialist clinics.
    • Address health inequalities and safeguard concerns.
    • Plan and deliver PSHE health promotion sessions, group work, and one-to-one support.
  • Safeguarding & Documentation:
    • Respond to safeguarding concerns, attend child protection meetings, and maintain confidential, compliant records.
  • Service Improvement & Audit:
    • Contribute to service planning, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Support protocol development and commissioning evidence-based practice.
  • Equipment & Compliance:
    • Maintain clinical equipment and ensure infection control protocols.
  • Clinical Standards:
    • Adhere to NMC registration standards, participate in CPD, and develop junior staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a skill-mixed team to deliver safe, equitable services under the 5-19 Healthy Child Programme.
  • Manage workloads, prioritise complex cases, and delegate effectively to promote team development.
  • Foster strong relationships with schools, families, and multidisciplinary partners, ensuring integrated child and young person support.
  • Conduct health assessments, provide targeted interventions, and deliver immunisations while following safeguarding procedures.
  • Facilitate health promotion in PSHE education, group work, and one-to-one sessions.
  • Respond promptly to safeguarding concerns, ensure child protection adherence, and maintain clear documentation.
  • Manage records, reports, and digital systems efficiently.
  • Contribute to service planning, audits, and evidence-based protocol development.
  • Ensure equipment maintenance and track replacement needs.
  • Uphold NMC standards and support continuing professional development.

Ideal Candidate

Essential Requirements

✅ Registered Nurse (RN1) with a SCPHN – School Nurse qualification and current NMC Part 3 registration. ✅ Evidence of ongoing professional development and transferable clinical skills. ✅ Knowledge of NHS and children & young people (CYP) public health priorities. ✅ Leadership experience, strong ability in multi-disciplinary team collaboration and service improvement (e.g., audits, change management). ✅ Outstanding organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills – including the ability to prioritise, delegate, and manage complexity. ✅ Competent in IT systems, including digital record-keeping. ✅ Resilient, adaptable, and ethical, with a commitment to delivering the highest standards.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

🔹 Registered Nurse – Child Branch (specialist qualification). 🔹 Mentorship qualifications (e.g., Child Protection Supervisor or Clinical Supervision Facilitator). 🔹 Additional training:

  • PSHE delivery.
  • Sexual health assessments.
  • Immunisation foundation (2-day course). 🔹 Recent experience directly working with CYP and their families. 🔹 Completed safeguarding modules.

Other Requirements

📋 A Full UK Driving Licence + access to a car insured for business use.
