Bank Host and Catering Assistant

Spire Thames Valley Hospital | Slough | Host & Catering Assistant

Spire Thames Valley Hospital is looking for an experienced and motivated Host & Catering Assistant to join our hardworking Catering team.

This is an important role within our hospital, helping to create a positive experience for patients, visitors and colleagues every day. From providing high-quality meal services to maintaining a welcoming environment, you’ll play a key part in supporting patient care and ensuring the smooth running of hospital operations. This bank opportunity will primarily support weekend services, with additional shifts available to help cover annual leave and other planned absences throughout the year.

About the Role

As a Host & Catering Assistant, you will support the delivery of high-quality catering services across the hospital, helping to ensure patients receive nutritious meals and a positive dining experience during their stay. You'll work closely with colleagues across the Catering and Facilities teams, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food safety and customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver meal and beverage services to patients in a courteous and professional manner
  • Take patient meal orders and support individual dietary requirements where appropriate
  • Ensure patient dining areas are clean, tidy and welcoming
  • Assist with food preparation and presentation in line with hospital standards
  • Maintain excellent food hygiene and infection prevention standards at all times
  • Support stock control, replenishment and storage procedures
  • Assist with clearing tables, collecting trays and maintaining cleanliness throughout service periods
  • Work collaboratively with Catering, Facilities and Clinical teams to support patient needs
  • Follow all health and safety procedures, policies and regulatory requirements
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, visitors and colleagues

Who we're looking for:

  • Previous experience in catering, hospitality, customer service or healthcare environments is desirable
  • A passion for delivering excellent service and supporting positive patient experiences
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Friendly, approachable and compassionate manner
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently when required
  • Reliable, flexible and professional approach to work
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Understanding of food hygiene principles and safe working practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining high standards
  • Commitment to providing an excellent experience for patients, visitors and colleagues

Contract: Bank

Days/Hours: Primarily weekend shifts, with occasional weekday shifts available to provide annual leave and absence cover as required.
