Bank Lymphoedema Therapist – Cromwell Hospital
Location: 1A Lexham Gardens, W8 5JJ, London Salary: Competitive (hourly rate includes annual leave) Contract: Part-time (ad hoc bank shifts) Department: Clinical Services
About the Role
A skilled Lymphoedema Therapist is required to deliver client-centred, evidence-based care for adult patients (predominantly outpatients), managing primary and secondary lymphoedema. You will work autonomously while providing Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), Complex Decongestive Therapy (CDT), compression (bandaging and hosiery), and personalised education on skincare and exercise.
Most referrals are for secondary lymphoedema, but primary lymphoedema cases will also be accepted. As part of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), you will focus on patient involvement, shared decision-making, and long-term care coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Manage end-to-end lymphoedema care, including:
- Assessment, treatment planning, and monitoring
- Informed consent and ongoing education for patient empowerment
- Clinical decision-making using evidence-based practice and reflective methodology
- Record-keeping, including attendance/non-attendance tracking

Deliver interventions within your scope:
- Compression therapy (multi-component bandaging, customised stockings)
- Hosiery fitting and adjustments
- Lymphatic massage and supportive exercises
- Skin care advice
- Comprehensive discharge planning and follow-up

Collaborate with:
- MDT team members (doctors, nurses, dietitians, physiotherapists) to ensure holistic patient care
- External services (e.g., home care, community lymphoedema services)

Support service development by sharing best practices, contributing to clinical governance, and embedding quality improvement initiatives

Clinical governance and safety:
- Assess and manage clinical risks (referring concerns as necessary)
- Ensure timely documentation of each session
- Communicate referrals and escalation pathways clearly
Requirements
- A Registered AHP (Allied Health Professional) or nursing qualification, accredited with:
- Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or
- Royal College of Nursing (RCN)
- A recognised UK qualification in lymphoedema management (e.g., by an Association of Lymphoedema Practitioners-approved scheme)
- Proven experience as a lymphoedema therapist, including:
- Hands-on expertise in decongestion techniques, compression, and patient education
- Experience with both primary and secondary lymphoedema
- Knowledge of anatomic physiology, pathology, and evidence-based interventions
- Strong client-facing skills, including empathy, adaptability, and patience for long-term management
- Commitment to continuous professional development
- Advantages:
- Familiarity with multi-component bandaging (Jobst, Atrium, Compre-ply) and custom hosiery systems
- Experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings
