Maintenance Assistant (Bank Position)
Location: Rhodes Wood Hospital, Shepherds Way, Hatfield AL9 6NN
Join Rhodes Wood Hospital in Hatfield as a Maintenance Assistant, part-time in a bank position, where you will play a key role in maintaining a safe, well-presented, and functional environment for some of society’s most vulnerable individuals.
About the Role
As a Maintenance Assistant, you will ensure that facilities, services, and equipment meet requirements, conduct regular audits, and address any faults to support a safe environment for service users, staff, and visitors. You will work alongside an experienced team to perform a variety of maintenance tasks as needed, including gardening, repairs, decorating, and liaising with contractors.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring service, buildings, facilities, and equipment remain fit for purpose and safe for use.
- Applying DIY and maintenance skills to carry out repairs and upgrades.
- Conducting regular maintenance checks to identify and resolve faults.
- Assisting with building and facilities repairs, including structural and mechanical work.
- Supporting decorating, upkeep, and technical maintenance tasks.
- Reporting faults and defects to the manager and liaising accordingly.
- Participating in an on-call duties rota (1-week cycle) for emergency maintenance needs.
- Coordinating and supporting contractors on-site, administering paperwork, and confirming tool checks.

About Rhodes Wood Hospital
You’ll work at Rhodes Wood Hospital, providing residential and educational support for children and young people (aged 8–18) with eating disorders.
- On-site Ofsted-registered school, enabling young people to continue their education.
- Based at the outskirts of Hatfield, with straightforward car access.
- The site is remote with limited public transport links—reliable transport to work is essential.
