Mō te tūranga | About the role
At Westpac, we’re here to take action now for a better future. As the Senior Bank Manager of our Palmerston North branch, you’ll lead one of our largest and most strategically important Manawatū banking teams, helping shape how we serve customers, support local businesses, and contribute to the wider community.
This is a people-first leadership role with real local impact. You’ll create an environment where customers feel welcome and supported, your team feel confident and valued, and the branch delivers strong outcomes with care, consistency and purpose.
Reporting to the Regional Manager, you’ll lead the overall performance, culture and rhythm of the branch. You’ll build trusted relationships across the bank and throughout the community, help your team grow, and ensure the branch delivers exceptional customer experiences across personal banking, business banking and wealth.
In This Role, You’ll

- grow a strong branch culture grounded in trust, coaching, inclusion and accountability
- create a great in-branch experience for customers, business partners and community stakeholders
- build and strengthen local relationships so Westpac shows up as a trusted part of the community
- balance performance, operational excellence and risk management in a way that supports sustainable success
- help shape how your branch uses its people, spaces and tools to serve customers well
You might already be leading in banking. Or you may be working in another customer-focused environment where you’ve built high-performing teams, led change, and earned trust through your leadership. If you’re someone who leads with clarity, backs their people, stays close to customers, and wants to make a visible difference in your local community, we’d love to hear from you.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
