Location: Spire Leeds Hospital, Leeds – LS8 Contract: Flexible Sessional, Competitive Hourly Rate Specialism: Children and Young People (0–17 years)
Spire Leeds Hospital is seeking an experienced Paediatric Phlebotomist to join our bank team, delivering high-quality, caring, and efficient phlebotomy services. This varied sessional role involves on-call, ad-hoc working for children (0–16 years), occasionally including 16–17-year-olds.
The successful candidate will work independently and collaboratively across children’s and outpatient departments, supporting complex cases. Essential experience in paediatric venepuncture, canulation, and independent blood collection is required.

- MRI/ CT imaging
- Outpatient and physiotherapy services (6 days/week)

Responsibilities
The Phlebotomist will contribute to a child-focused service by:
- Collecting blood samples via venepuncture, capillary methods, or pediatric heel prick for inpatients/outpatients
- Inserting cannulae for investigative procedures within the Children and Young People (CYP) ward
- Operating uncppersvised for vulnerable patients, including infants
- Ensuring analytical requirements are met via accurate specimen acquisition
- Supporting team’s training to develop competency in CYP blood collection

Requirements
To apply, you must meet the following:

Qualifications/Experience:
- Recognised healthcare qualification or equivalent (e.g., NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare)
- Nationally recognised training in venepuncture and capillary sampling
- demonstrably strong experience in paediatric/maternity settings

Core Skills:
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Competence in aligning with pediatric hospital protocols (patient IDs, infection control)
- Patient-centred approach – adaptable communication with children and parents
- Hands-on experience with special needs populations, if applicable

Certifications:
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Safeguarding training certifitificaged
