Spire Manchester Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Porter to join our dynamic and experienced Portering team, working on an as and when basis to help cover sickness and annual leave in our porter team.

Working Hours: Various shifts available Monday through Sunday, flexibility required
Contract type: Bank/Zero hours

As Porter, you will be responsible to provide the highest standards of personal service to patients and staff in all departments and to provide a highly efficient and courteous portering and distribution service throughout the hospital and to work as a multi-skilled member of the team providing high-level, quality support to the hospital, covering any of the courier, portering, and security duties.

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):

  • To transfer, transport and guide patients safely around the hospital, as required, in a caring, sympathetic and professional manner
  • To assist in the safety of patients, staff and consultants
  • To collect and deliver clean and dirty linen
  • Responsible for the team's safe management of the collection and disposal of waste, both domestic and clinical in line with corporate and hospital policy WM01
  • To ensure team compliance with all Health & Safety at Work Regulations
  • To ensure Medical Gases are checked & ordered 'in time' for a safe continuation of service
  • To ensure the service corridor is kept clear and tidy at all times
  • To assist with the general security of the hospital and associated grounds and report any security problems to the Senior Management team
  • Report any maintenance issues to the Maintenance department via Pirana

Who are we looking for?

  • Whilst no formal qualifications are required you must be able to communicate with other members of staff and patients clearly and your personal appearance must be of a high standard, expected in a professional healthcare environment
  • A clean driving licence is essential
  • Experience of delivering frontline customer service and working in a similar environment
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Excellent customer care skills
  • Ability to work without supervision
  • Full and current UK driving licence
  • Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends
