Sonographer Trainer – National Imaging Academy Wales (NIAW)
The National Imaging Academy Wales (NIAW) invites applications to join its Training Team in the role of Sonographer Trainer. This exciting opportunity supports the delivery of high-quality Radiology and Radiographic training within Wales.
About the Role
The role involves working within a multidisciplinary NIAW team to:
- Deliver clinical ultrasound training
- Provide clinical supervision
- Undertake competency assessments
- Offer simulation support
- Contribute to the implementation of the NIAW 3-year strategic plan
About National Imaging Academy Wales (NIAW)
NIAW is a state-of-the-art facility specialising in high-quality training for the imaging workforce across Wales. Key features include:
- A 100-seat lecture theatre
- Two workstation classrooms
- Three ultrasound suites
- A dedicated ultrasound simulation room
- Advanced audio-visual equipment
In addition to professional training, NIAW:
- Hosts corporate and CPD events
- Supports the development of Radiology training courses
- Acts as a hub for radiology innovation and research
The Academy welcomes applicants who are Welsh or English speakers.
Person Specification
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver clinical ultrasound training to various roles within the imaging workforce.
- Conduct competency assessments and provide clinical supervision to trainees.
- Offer simulation-based learning and support to enhance practical skills.
- Contribute to the 3-year strategic vision of the Academy, including:
- Teaching
- Supervision
- Research
- Continuing professional development
- Support the delivery of courses, CPD, and corporate events.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ultrasound technology, anatomy, and clinical practice.
- Ensure excellent communication, professional conduct, and adherence to standard governance and safety protocols.

Essential Criteria
Candidates must be:
- A qualified and registered Radiographer or Sonographer with:
- Specialist postgraduate training in ultrasound.
- Proven expertise in ultrasound practice, including scanning and report writing.
- Demonstrated ability to offer clinical guidance to healthcare professionals.
- Committed to teaching, supervision, research, and development (including CPD). explica
- Highly organised with strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proficiency in IT and record-keeping systems.
- Experience in maintaining safe working practices in a clinical or training environment.
