Bank Sterile Services Technician | Theatre Department | SSD Assistant | Spire Parkway Hospital | Solihull, Birmingham | Private Hospital | Flexible working hours

Spire Parkway Hospital have an exciting opportunity and are looking for a Sterile Service Technician to join our fantastic theatre team on the bank to pick up ad hoc shifts Monday to Saturday.

Spire Parkway Hospital in Solihull, West Midlands offers a comprehensive range of private hospital services. Our hospital is rated Good by the CQC for all parts of the inspection except for Patient Care, which is rated Outstanding. The report states, “Staff treated patients with compassion and kindness, respected their privacy and dignity, took account of their individual needs, and helped them understand their conditions. They provided emotional support to patients, families and carers.”

Our dedicated hospital team are passionate about excellent patient care and we offer a range of specialist treatments to patients across Birmingham, Warwickshire and the West Midlands. This includes diagnostic services, rehabilitation, cutting-edge surgical procedures and excellence in specialist fields like orthopaedics, women’s health and cancer care. We have 51 bedrooms and five operating theatres.

Duties and responsibilities

The Sterile Services Department provides a vital service decontaminating and reprocessing surgical instruments for the whole hospital. You will be involved in the cleaning, inspecting, assembling, packing, sterilising and distributing surgical equipment according to hospital requirements. You will also be required to decontaminate endoscopes for our endoscopy department within the hospital. The successful candidate will require attention to detail, and an eagerness and ability to learn.

We have a comprehensive in-house training package for the role. The role is physically demanding; you will be required to lift and handle heavy instrument sets and endure long periods of standing.

  • Checking correct instruments are on trays pre and post decontamination.
  • Pack instruments for sterilisation.
  • Complete tracking systems accurately.
  • Monitor repairs of instruments
  • Checking functioning of sterilising and decontamination equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions
  • Decontamination of flexible endoscopes

Who we're looking for

  • Experience of working with in a sterile services department is desirable
  • Basic awareness of health & safety and hygiene.
  • Working as part of a great team
  • The flexibility to work on our rota
  • Willing to work Saturdays when needed.
