Bar Assistant

Driven Barista (15h/Week, Part-Time) – Defence & Government Sector Catering

We are recruiting a passionate Barista to craft premium beverages while delivering exceptional customer service in a high-profile Defence, Government, and Energy sector setting.


About the Role

As a Barista within the Compass Group UK & Ireland (ESS) division, you’ll:

  • Create beautifully crafted coffee drinks for military, government, and client sites
  • Provide first-class service and uphold Defence’s brand image
  • Work under variable shifts as a part-time contractor (15 hours/week)
  • Receive opportunities for professional development and career progression

ESS delivers catering to over 250 UK military establishments, high-security government sites, police facilities, and energy sector locations. Collaborating in dynamic team environments ensures every interaction leaves a positive impression.

  • Prepare & serve customisable drinks & high-quality food tailored to customer requests
  • Maintain a polished bar area, ensuring cleanliness and organisation
  • Process payments securely (cash and card transactions)
  • Communicate enthusiastically to engage guests and resolve their needs
  • Maintain stock levels of disposables (e.g., mugs, plates)
  • Learn about coffee blends, brewing techniques, food preparation, and presentation
  • Monitor and report brewing equipment functionality to ensure operating standards
  • Uphold Defence standards by representing the organisation professionally
  • Comply with strict Food Handling & Hygiene regulations
  • Adhere to Health & Safety protocols

Ideal Candidate Requirements

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Shares our customer-focused mentality – Brilliant communicator and relationship builder
  • Holds prior experience in customer service – Hospitality, retail, or a related field
  • Positively approaches challenge – Eager, motivated, and perfection-seeking in all tasks
  • Operates independently – Makes decisions in line with customer needs
  • Has hands-on experience with barista equipment – Coffee machines, grinders, and brewing tools
  • Thrives under pressure – Reliable, adaptable, and resilient
  • Demonstrates strong timekeeping – Dependable attendance is essential
