Pret A Manger – Barista
A Pret Barista works as part of a team in a Pret shop to ensure all Barista-prepared drinks are served to the required Pret standard.
The Barista role is responsible for delivering excellent drink quality, knowledge, understanding, and outstanding service with Pret’s "Buzz". The role also covers efficient back counter operation, cleanliness, maintenance, and team training, ensuring customers always receive the drink they expect.
The Barista is an integral part of the shop team and will be expected to carry out Team Member Star duties as appropriate to business needs.
Right Pret People: Barista Prepared Drink Training
- To coach and train Team Member Stars and Baristas in Training on Barista Prepared Drinks and standards
- To liaise with the Team Member Trainer to ensure all Barista-prepared drink training is planned and carried out
- To conduct Coffee Team Briefs and attend relevant meetings, courses, and conferences relating to Barista Prepared Drinks
- To ensure all hot drink training materials remain available and up to date
- To adhere to Pret’s dress code and uniform policy
Amazing Service: Creating Pret Buzz
- To positively engage with customers and colleagues about Pret’s Coffee Story and Coffee Menu to generate "Buzz"
- To control queues proactively with clear communication
- To serve drinks within an acceptable timeframe
- To ensure consistent, clear, and professional coffee calling for customers and staff
- To demonstrate impressive latte art techniques

Delicious Food & Drink: Barista Prepared Drinks Quality & Knowledge
- To prepare all Barista Prepared Drinks to Pret standards
- To role-model Coffee knowledge and possess comprehensive understanding of Pret’s Barista Prepared Drinks and standards
- To confidently communicate Pret’s coffee knowledge and standards to customers and colleagues
- To monitor and report on milk and coffee quality via tasting and weighing Barista Prepared Drinks
- To ensure compliance with Coffee Confidence visits and coffee sections of Mystery Shopper/3D Reviews
- To reinforce new product launches and drink standard updates
- To report any Barista prepared drink ingredient quality issues to the Manager
- To gain familiarity with how other retailers serve similar drinks
Well Loved Shop: Barista Prepared Drinks Counter & Safety
- To maintain drink equipment, Barista box, and daily/weekly checks according to Pret standards
- To uphold cleanliness by viewing the counter through a customer’s perspective (clean as you go)
- To perform the 5-point check as a daily operational routine
- To carry out log checks, thermometer calibrations, and dribble tests as required
- To promote health & safety and food safety compliance per Pret standards and law
- To follow Food Safety Standards and report any non-compliance to the Manager

Shop Profitability: Waste Control
- To manage waste levels of Barista prepared drink ingredients efficiently
- To address stock variance and waste concerns with your Manager
Growing Sales: Maximising Revenue
- To establish and track weekly sales targets while sharing progress with the team
- To analyse and report Barista Prepared Drinks sales against total shop sales and sales mix
- To maintain adequate levels of ingredients, packaging, and small equipment
- To utilise promotional waste for sampling and recognising regular customers through Joy of Pret
Requirements
