About the role
As a Barista at Origin Coffee, you will be an integral part of the team providing exceptional coffee and customer service during Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival, one of the worlds greatest celebrations of art and culture. You will become part of the Barista team, supporting the General Manager and the team in creating a welcoming atmosphere and upholding Origin's commitment to quality and excellence. Your role will involve preparing and serving coffee and pre-made alcoholic drinks while maintaining the café’s cleanliness, and contributing to a positive team environment. While our standard hours are 8am-5pm, occasional evening shifts (6-11pm) for bar support will be required during the festival period.

Role Responsibilities
Guest Experience
- Provide outstanding customer service, ensuring every customer feels welcomed and valued.
- Engage with customers to share your knowledge of our coffee offerings and help them make informed choices.
- Always maintain a friendly and professional demeanour.
Coffee Preparation
- Prepare and serve a variety of coffee drinks to the highest standards, following Origin’s recipes and techniques.
- Maintain consistency and quality in every cup served.
- Stay updated with the latest trends and techniques in speciality coffee.
Team Support
- Collaborate with the General Manager and fellow baristas to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Participate in training sessions to continuously improve your skills and knowledge.
- Support team members in achieving a well-coordinated and efficient working environment.
Operations
- Ensure the café is clean, organised, and well-stocked always.
- Follow health and safety regulations, including food safety standards.
- Assist in inventory management and stock replenishment.

Brand and Marketing
- Help maintain and enhance retail displays to reflect the Origin brand.
- Support events and functions aimed at promoting Origin’s brand and engaging customers.
Communication
- Maintain clear and effective communication with team members and management.
- Keep informed about any updates or changes in the café’s operations and procedures.
Health and Safety
- Adhere to all health and safety guidelines to ensure a safe environment for customers and staff.
- Participate in regular health and safety training sessions.
Person Specification

Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in a café or hospitality setting
- Knowledge of coffee preparation techniques and equipment.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Essential Qualities
- A genuine love for coffee and an interest in learning more about the speciality coffee industry.
- Strong commitment to providing exceptional customer service and enhancing the customer experience.
- Keen eye for detail, ensuring every cup of coffee is prepared to the highest standard and the café environment is well-maintained.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and handle unexpected challenges with a positive attitude.
- Collaborative and supportive, fostering a positive work environment and assisting team members as needed.
- Effective communicator, able to engage with customers and team members clearly and courteously.
- Efficient in managing time and tasks, ensuring smooth and timely operations.
- Comfortable with operating coffee machines and other café equipment, with a willingness to learn new skills.
- Maintains a professional demeanour, handling all interactions with integrity and respect.
- Previous experience in a speciality coffee setting is essential.
