Job Description
SCOPE OF POSITION
St James Bar is one of London's leading luxury cocktail destinations. In May 2026, the bar was awarded a One Pin by The Pinnacle Guide, recognising excellence in its drinks programme, guest experience, and hospitality standards. This achievement reflects the team's commitment to innovation, creativity, and world-class service.
As a Bartender at St James Bar, you will play a key role in creating memorable experiences for our guests. With an in-depth knowledge of cocktails, spirits, wines, and luxury service, you will prepare and serve drinks with flair, professionalism, and creativity, ensuring the highest standards of hospitality in every interaction.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and serve a wide variety of beverages to the highest standards, including cocktails from the signature menu and bespoke guest requests.
- Deliver personalised and engaging service, building rapport with guests and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere.
- Be conversant in the use of the Micros system, following operational procedures and Sofitel’s standards of service.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the bar area at all times, following health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
- Assist in the creation and refinement of cocktail recipes and presentation, contributing to seasonal and signature menu development.
- Monitor inventory and restock bar supplies as required; assist in monthly stock takes.
- Process payments accurately using POS systems and follow cash handling procedures.
- Work collaboratively with the bar and floor team to ensure seamless service during all shifts.
- Maintain knowledge of hotel services and facilities, promoting them where appropriate. Ensure you have a thorough understanding of and adhere to laws and regulations regarding licensing, food safety, health & safety & fire regulations.
- Relate naturally and warmly with guests—genuine interaction is at the heart of the St James Bar experience, requiring flexibility and attentiveness in every aspect of service.
- Collaborate effectively with the wider bar and floor teams to ensure a seamless and high-quality guest journey.

Qualifications
- Proven experience as a bartender in a high-volume, premium, or luxury hospitality environment. Extensive knowledge of cocktails, spirits, wines, beers, and beverage service techniques.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and deliver personalised guest experiences.
- Experience using POS systems, such as Micros, including accurate payment processing and cash handling procedures.
- Strong understanding of food safety, licensing regulations, health & safety requirements, and hygiene standards.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment while maintaining high standards of presentation, attention to detail, and professionalism.
