CRISIS RESPONSE OFFICER

THE ROLE

Crisis Response Officers work in some of the most demanding environments in our portfolio, supporting local authorities, NHS trusts, and social care providers in managing situations involving vulnerable individuals, mental health crises, and volatile or unpredictable environments.
This role requires enhanced training in physical intervention, mental health awareness, and de-escalation techniques. You'll work closely with multi-agency teams, and your approach must embody Akon's commitment to professionalism, compassion, and control under pressure.
This is not a role for everyone, but for the right person, it's one of the most impactful roles in professional security.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Respond to high-risk situations involving vulnerable individuals
- Apply advanced de-escalation and mental health awareness techniques
- Work within multi-agency frameworks (NHS, police, social services)
- Conduct physical intervention only where legally justified and proportionate
- Complete detailed post-incident reports and safeguarding documentation
- Maintain professional boundaries and client dignity at all times

- SIA Door Supervisor Licence (minimum)
- Enhanced DBS Check

What sets Crisis Response Officers apart from standard security officers?
A standard security officer is trained for property protection and access management in predictable environments. Crisis Response Officers hold significantly enhanced qualifications, advanced physical intervention, specialist mental health awareness and de-escalation, catastrophic bleed control, safeguarding, and professional boundaries training. They're deployed in environments where standard security would be inadequate or inappropriate, and where the wrong response could cause serious harm. It's a different level of skill, training, and professional responsibility.
Do I need mental health training before I apply?
Mental health awareness and de-escalation training is listed as a requirement, but we understand that candidates may hold this at different levels. If you have foundational mental health training but not the advanced level we require, we'd encourage you to apply and discuss your current level with us. We can advise on appropriate training pathways and, for the right candidate, we may be able to support you in meeting the full standard before deployment.

How is physical intervention used in this role?
Physical intervention is always the last resort. Our Crisis Response Officers are trained to de-escalate verbally and create safe space long before any physical contact is considered. Where physical intervention is legally justified and proportionate, we use accredited, approved techniques designed to minimise risk to all parties. Every physical intervention is documented fully and reviewed. We take our legal and ethical obligations in this area extremely seriously.
Do I work independently or as part of a team?
It depends on the assignment. Some crisis response deployments are individual postings within a multi-agency team, where you might be the sole Akon officer working alongside NHS or local authority staff. Others involve pairs or small Akon teams. Regardless of the structure, you'll always have a clear point of contact in our operations team and a defined escalation chain for any situation that develops.
Is this role available across Kent?
Yes. We have Crisis Response requirements from NHS trusts, local authorities, and social care providers across Kent, including Canterbury, Herne Bay, Dover, Folkestone, and Ashford. We match officers to postings that are geographically practical for them and appropriate to their specific training and experience level.
