All these passengers expect their luggage to reach the same destination. That's where Vanderlande comes in as a strategic partner with full responsibility of the performance and maintenance of Heathrow's baggage handling systems.
Your role
You will be supported to achieve a Business Administration Level 3 apprenticeship at Newbury College, alongside working within the Baggage Combined Control Room (BCCR) at London Heathrow Airport. Upon completion of your qualification, you will then proceed to become a Control Room Operator. The BCCR Control Room Operator Apprentice will be performing duties to ensure that the strategic objective of every bag, every passenger, every time safely is achieved. You will be performing the following tasks:
- Having a high level of awareness of the importance of safety and wellbeing, demonstrating personal qualities and leading by example for others
- Monitoring the baggage systems via the various bespoke computer-controlled systems, configuring routes, inputting operational data and reacting to changing system conditions
- Communicating effectively with internal and external colleagues, establishing the duration of the baggage equipment fault and communicating information to the relevant parties
- Proactively identifying bags at risk, carrying out tag traces and compiling daily reports regarding this analysis
- Carrying out training and familiarisation for new staff members and sharing of knowledge
- Developing knowledge of contingency processes, criticality of baggage equipment and supporting the BCCR team during any baggage related incidents
- Allocating arrival flights in a proactive manner
- Analysing data to identify improvement areas in processes and system performance
- Developing knowledge of the controls of the baggage process, requirements of the airport and airline operations

As an BCCR Control Room Operator Apprentice, you make an important contribution to customer satisfaction, whereby the continuity of the customer process is central. You therefore have an enthusiastic and proactive attitude and are flexible.
What we see as a nice to have:
- Five A*-C or 9-4 grade GCSEs (Including Maths and English).
- An interest in operations and continuous improvement of both self and process
- Enthusiastic and motivated attitude
