The Role
We are in the process of implementing a new CRM system essential to our opportunity pipeline strategy, aiming to drive profitable revenue growth. This critical role will report to the Head of Opportunities and be responsible for proactively identifying, analysing, and disseminating business opportunities across practice groups. You’ll collaborate closely with fee earners, BD teams, and marketing to position the firm strategically, enhance win rates, and ensure a disciplined, insight-led approach to client engagements.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Commercial Leadership
- Opportunity Spotting: Proactively monitor legal, regulatory, and industry developments to identify new business opportunities, including potential clients, sector expansions, or evolving practice areas, and propose actionable strategies for partnerships and growth.
- Market & Competitor Analysis: Conduct thorough research into client trends, competitor positioning, and thought leadership to inform targeted recommendations for partners and fee earners.
- Intelligence Dissemination: Coordinate client and sector intelligence and share tailored updates with practice groups and leaders across jurisdictions.
Relationship & Collaboration Management
- Internal Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with internal teams to align business growth objectives with firm-wide initiatives.
- Cross-Practice Coordination: Facilitate meetings and discussions to explore cross-sector collaborations and ensure a seamless, client-centric ‘one-firm’ approach.
- Value Proposition Advocacy: Work with fee earners and BD colleagues to position pitches, proposals, and engagements effectively, supporting tailored approaches for each opportunity.

BD Initiative Support
- Develop and implement BD campaigns (e.g., client events, lead generation programs) aligned with market insights, ensuring timely execution and measurable outcomes.
- Collaborate with the BD Leadership Team to plan and deliver revenue-generating strategic initiatives.
System & Team Leadership
- Set global standards and best practices for opportunity management, CRM, and pipeline tracking—driving continuous improvement, innovation, and team capability.
- Process Optimisation: Ensure efficiency in tracking opportunities, from initial spotting to deal progression, with clear accountability and reporting frameworks.
Other Responsibilities
- Advise on BD strategies and commercial initiatives that align with firm metrics and client priorities.
- Mentor and upskill team members to refine ownership of opportunity pipelines.
Personal Specification
Requirements
- 6+ years’ experience, with 1–2 years in a Manager-level role, within Business Development (BD) for professional services, ideally in a law firm.
- A proven track record of growing existing and new business with strong commercial acumen.
- Specialised experience in opportunity/growth pursuits, market intelligence, or strategic BD—preferably in legal or financial advisory disciplines.
- High proficiency in:
- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint (strategic data analysis capabilities)
- LinkedIn Sales Navigator for competitive intelligence
- Ability to grow and diversify revenue streams through proactive client engagement and insights-driven campaigns.
- Workload Management: Managing a high-demand, fast-paced environment with clear prioritisation, ensuring deadlines and targets are achieved.
