Senior Business Development Manager for Asset Management
Location: Travers Smith, City of London -Division: Business Development, Clients, Marketing, Events and Communications
About the Role
Reporting to the Divisional BD Manager for Asset Management, the Senior Business Development Manager plays a crucial role in developing and executing the firm’s business growth strategies and plans across key practice groups within Asset Management (Funds, Financial Services & Markets and Tax) and designated initiatives.
This role is both strategic and operational, balancing daily interaction with partners and other firm stakeholders while driving execution of the business plan. High visibility and extensive collaboration across distinct practice areas are required to provide leadership, challenge strategic approaches, and deliver consistent excellence in services.

Key Responsibilities
Business & Client Planning
- Collaborate with partners to design, refine, and implement quarterly business plans tailored to market conditions
- Identify trends and growth opportunities from existing and potential clients, enhancing practice-specific understanding
- Collaborate closely with client relationship managers, overseeing execution of action plans for top clients
- Align cross-practice initiatives to create a unified client experience
Business Development & Marketing Strategy
- Develop annual business development and outreach plans across print, digital, and events marketing channels
- Assist the Communications team in planning media/PR strategies to enhance/reinforce the firm’s practice positioning
- Oversee client-centric and referral-focused events, ensuring high caliber execution
- Partner with pitching teams by providing targeted competitive/customer intelligence
- Serve as practice group CRM lead, advocating for up-to-date contact management
- Validate sponsorships and corporate hospitality programs against ROI
Operations & Thought Leadership
- Maintain high-standard directory submissions, awards materials, and thought leadership content
- See award submissions through for inclusion in firm publications
- Champion data visibility and oversee analytical reporting dashboards
- Participate in key firm initiatives (e.g. TS Change) and post-pitch reviews
Other Responsibilities
- Assist in skill-building, mentoring the BD team through research and colleague-led sessions
- Support the Chief Marketing Officer and Department Heads in budget discussions and allocation

Personal Specification - Experience, Knowledge & Skills
Minimum Experience and Expertise
- 4-6 years’ experience in professional services (law firms preferred), with at least 2-3 years at Senior Executive level
- Proven track record growing both legacy and new client relationships
Key Technical Skills
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Expert-level Excel preferred)
- Advanced strategy formulation with macro-economic insights
- Ability to diagnose and leverage competitive intelligence for tailoring client strategies
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with senior stakeholders and strategic peers
- Collaborative leader who challes, motivates, and inspires teams
- Data-driven decisiveness and adaptability in ambiguous situations
- Proven ability to cross-sell services across practice lines
- Capacity to ship high-quality output under pressure, prioritising effectively
