Scientific Account Manager / Business Development Specialist
Location: Northwest Region (Manchester, Lancashire area) Contract Type: Permanent
About the Role
Our client, a global leader in scientific technology, specialises in chromatography & mass spectrometry solutions, serving laboratories and industries worldwide.
They are currently seeking an ambitious and commercially astute Account Manager / Business Development Specialist to:
- Drive sales of analytical instruments (HPLC, GC, GC-MS, LC-MS, UV/Vis, FT-IR, TOC, Elemental Analysis)
- Sell consumables and software solutions
- Work across laboratories and industries, supporting high-value relationships
- Identify and convert new business opportunities
This is an ideal role for a technical sales professional who thrives in consulting engagements, relies on credibility, enjoys problem-solving, and fosters long-term partnerships rather than transactional relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Account Management & Business Development:
- Develop and maintain client relationships while expanding business opportunities
- Prospect and convert new clients in the analytical science sector
- Work closely with client stakeholders to understand HTC (High-Tech Challenges)
- Technical Sales Approach Required:
- Demonstrate expertise in HPLC, GC, LC-MS, and related spectroscopy techniques
- Consultatively engage with technical and commercial decision-makers
- Align solutions with CAPEX/Budgets and understand secondary costs (e.g., consumables, warranty)
- Support the technology team with complex client interactions.
- Meeting Sales Targets:
- Consistently hit performance targets through consultative selling.

Requirements
Preferred Candidate:
- Degree-level qualification: BSc, MSc or PhD in a back-end scientific subject.
- 3+ years relevant experience in scientific instrument sales (HPLC, GC, MS, etc.)
- Strong ability to carry out in-depth technical research to empower client support.
- International conference presentation experience desirable.
- Auto-license validity or willingness to obtain, and proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work up to 80% travel requirement in the UK and flexible to relocate if required (any location within Lancashire/Mersey corridor).
- Early-to-market orientation, and comfortable pitching innovative ideas.
- Right to work legally in the UK without additional sponsorship requirements.
