Senior Account Manager / Business Development Specialist – Analytical Instrumentation & Consumables
Our client is a global leader in scientific technology, providing chromatography & mass spectrometry solutions to customers across the scientific sector.
About the Role
Position: Account Manager / Business Development Specialist Focus Area:
- Analytical instruments (HPLC, GC, GC-MS, LC-MS, UV/Vis, FT-IR, TOC, Elemental Analysis)
- Consumables & software
- Multi-industry & multi-laboratory sales
This role is ideal for a driven, commercially astute sales professional comfortable working with technical stakeholders, including:
- Asking insightful questions
- Understanding core challenges
- Proposing meaningful, solution-driven recommendations
- Building long-term, trust-based relationships beyond simple transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the sales of analytical instrumentation and associated consumables across diverse sectors
- Identify and convert new business opportunities in a consultative, strategic manner
- Maintain and expand existing client relationships, ensuring ongoing satisfaction and upsell opportunities
- Engage with senior technical and commercial stakeholders at laboratories, universities, and research institutions
- Ensure updated market awareness of CAPEX vs. OPEX solutions (e.g., service contracts)
- Maintain high performance in achieving sales targets while delivering exceptional service
- Represent the company at trade shows, conferences, and client visits

Person Specification: What You’ll Have
Qualifications & Experience
- BSc, MSc or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (preferably chemistry, biochemistry, or applied life sciences)
- Proven scientific instrument sales experience, ideally with:
- Strong technical understanding of:
- HPLC
- GC/GC-MS
- LC-MS (including Q, QQQ, TOF, MALDI systems)
- Spectroscopy (FT-IR, UV/Vis, Elemental Analysis)
- Strong technical understanding of:
- Account management experience, including:
- Identifying growth opportunities
- Managing client accounts effectively
- Achieving sales targets consistently
Key Skills & Attributes
- Excellent communication: Ability to engage with senior stakeholders at all levels
- Technical fluency: Ability to effectively translate advanced science into practical business solutions
- Commercial acumen: Motivated by results while valuing relationships
- Agile & adaptable: Comfortable working with multi-vendor solutions and contract structures
- UK driving licence with willingness to travel up to 80% of the time
- Full right to work in the UK (no sponsorship offered)
